QR 3D System

Category: Club Articles

Hi all, Bryan Johnson here.  I've been working to develop an interactive kiosk system for use during our annual 3-D archery shoots.  I'd like to take a moment to explain what it is and how you can use it.

If you don't know what a 3-D shoot is, you can learn a little about them by clicking here.

My aim with this project was to put some type of information kiosk at each shooting lane, like you might see in state parks for the various species of fauna and flora.  I thought it would be interesting (especially to younger shooters) to learn a bit about each animal as you progressed through the shoot.  While brainstorming how to exactly go about placing moving kiosks for each potential target, I realized quickly that a physical kiosk had limitations that made it impractical for 3-D shoots. Using a combination of our club's website and QR code technology I was able to not only accomplish a system to inform shooters, but also eliminate the shortcomings of the physical kiosk, and add somewhat interactive elements to each animal's "virtual kiosk".

This is a QR code.  QR codes are just like the bar codes on products you buy at the store, but QR codes can transmit many different kinds of information.

What you need to use this system:

You will need an internet capable "smart" device, and service out on our 3-D course.  Your device's reception will make or break this system, unfortunately, and that's something I will just have to deal with and attempt to improve upon.  The growth and evolution of this system will largely depend on how you folks receive it as a tool and whether or not you think it's even worth your time to use.

You will also need a QR code reading application.  These are easily downloaded from any of the available marketplaces on your device, and are almost always free.  You should not have to purchase anything to use this system, though you should consider that while using this system, you will be using your service provider's internet services, and the fees associated with it.

How to use it:

Using this QR system is easy.  All you have to do is locate the 6"x4" laminated card at each shooting station, turn on your code reading app, and scan the square QR code.  You will receive a web link, and when you click it you will be transferred to that particular animal's information page on our safe and secure club website.  There you will find an article listing some interesting facts about each animal, an image of the animal, an image of what the animal's tracks look like, and even a video of what the animal looks and sounds like (in most cases).

Please note that all of the information contained in this system is provided for educational and research use only.  We are not selling a product, and this system in no way influences, affects, or is associated with the price of admission to our Pioneer Valley League 3-D shoots, or the league itself.  When you use this system, you do so at your own risk, and you agree to absolve the Agawam Bowmen club from any loss or issue associated with the use of this system.

I hope you utilize and enjoy what I've tried to accomplish here.  Please feel free to message me if anything seems out of place, incorrect, or if you have any constructive criticism or praise.  I can be reached via email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
